How can I get right with God?

The Good News According to the Bible:

GOD & CREATION

There is one true God, who is the holy and just Creator, and all honour, glory, and praise are due him.

  • “Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; lovingkindness and truth go before you.” -Psalm 89:14

  • “Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.” -Revelation 4:11

MAN & SIN

All of mankind has turned from God and lives in sin, which is lawlessness. Rather than glorify God, we glorify ourselves.

  • “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” -Romans 3:23

  • “Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness.” -1 John 3:4

GUILT & CONDEMNATION

Because we have sinned, and because God is holy and just, we are guilty before him and face eternal judgment.

  • “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness.” -Romans 1:18

  • “For it is because of these things [i.e. sins] that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience.” -Colossians 3:6

  • “But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” -Revelation 21:8

CHRIST & SALVATION

Jesus Christ lived the perfect life that we have not and died on the cross in the place of sinners, bearing the wrath due to sin, thus accomplishing salvation and making the way for reconciliation.

  • “For while we were still helpless [in sin], at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.” -Romans 5:6

  • “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” -Romans 6:23

  • “He [God the Father] made Him [Jesus Christ] who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” -2 Corinthians 5:21

RESURRECTION & ASCENSION

Christ rose from the grave in victory, defeating sin and death, and ascended to heaven where he now reigns as the exalted Lord of heaven and earth.

  • “But God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.” -Acts 2:24

  • “But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep [i.e. dead].” -1 Corinthians 15:20

  • “For this reason also, God highly exalted him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” -Philippians 2:9-11

REPENTANCE & FAITH

God calls on all people everywhere to repent (turn from their sinful ways) and believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior for the forgiveness of sins and reconciliation.

  • “And He [God] ordered us to preach to the people, and solemnly to testify that this is the One [Jesus] who has been appointed by God as Judge of the living and the dead. Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins.” -Acts 10:42-43

  • “solemnly testifying…of repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.” -Acts 20:21

  • “for ‘WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.’” -Romans 10:13

  • “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” -John 3:36

WHAT NOW?

Please give deep consideration to what you have just read. It is a matter of eternal life or eternal death. If you have a Bible, read Genesis 1-3 and the Gospel of John. If you have repented of your sins and believed in the gospel, then it is important for you to fellowship with other believers, grow in your knowledge of God’s word, and pursue holiness and righteousness.
